Request for Activity Types to match default TFS Task and be required
Gathering FeedbackWe have Activity Types set on our TFS Tasks and are wondering if Timetracker could default the time entry screen to the Activity Type from the TFS Task when there is a match? Since TFS doesn't save some of the custom activity types it won't always match some of the additional activity types that we defined in Timetracker (PTO, Meetings, Training, etc.).
This would save us from forgetting to change it. We left it default as [Not Set] because we log time for internal meetings, design, development, documentation, testing, etc.
A second request is for Timetracker to give us a configuration option to make the activity type a required field during time entry, it would force us to remember to set an activity type when we enter time. This may require the Timesheet functionality to change a bit so that after you enter time on a task/PBI/bug, etc. in the Timesheet view we'd want the time entry screen to pop up to force the user to select an Activity Type and enter any comments, etc.

I was testing how smart the default Activity Type was when creating a new work log, but found it would only default to the specified 'default' Activity Type - go figure! ;)
Please consider adding a feature to preferentially match the Task’s Activity value if the same text string is available from the Timetracker Activity Type list. If not present, or no Activity specified, the Timetracker default would still apply?
Example A:
- work item (Task) Activity is set as "Design".
- Timetracker default Activity Type is set as "[Not Set]".Adding a work log entry against this task should default Activity Type to "Design" as it matches.
Example B:
- work item (Task) Activity is set as "Party" (or blank).
- Timetracker default Activity Type is set as "[Not Set]".Adding a work log entry against this task should default Activity Type to "[Not Set]" as does not match (no Party activity type in our Timetracker list, yet).
Method:
This could be another option for Timetracker default, i.e. “Preferentially match work item activity type” or something similar. It would save 2-clicks for almost all log entries being captured if activity type is being used on Tasks like we plan to.From what I can see other work item types also have an Activity field, but we only plan to use it on Tasks (custom Agile process to hide Timetracker UI from non-relevant work item types).

Hi Christiaan,
thanks for reaching out and providing your feedback. This is definitely a valid requests, however it is not part of our immediate plans so I cannot give you an ETA at the moment. Please be assured that we have documented your feedback in our backlog and we will update this thread should the situation change.
Thank you! Nici
