Budget per Project

    We have a similar request:

We are a bespoke software house serving multiple clients. Our clients typically have a budget per department or organisational business unit and those budgets may then be subdivided by project or epic.

For each 'budget' we actually plan to have three budgets:

    1) One for the work
    2) One for additional work that was added after the budget was agreed
    3) and one for work that has been excluded

So, by the time you multiply the number of clients by the number of departments etc. that will mean we will have dozens of budgets in our budgets list. We've been experimenting with that and are finding it makes it slow to find a specific budget.

What would help a lot is if when we create a budget we could set the project the budget notionally belongs to, and then have a filter to filter that budget list to just budgets by that project setting.

I appreciate that budgets can actually include work from multiple projects (which is really useful), so if using the Project will be confusing to users then could we just have a 'Budget Filter Group' that you can set on for a budget and then the option to filter the list by that field. We can then put project name in that.

Ideally for us there would actually be two separate hierarchical filtering options, 'Budget Filter Group Level 1' and 'Budget Filter Group Level 2', then we could use the first one for the client and the second one for projects for that client, but other people could use it as they choose.

    Hi Tom,

thank-you for reaching out. We've recently started working on a new feature to be able to assign Budgets to Area Paths as well as to individual sub Area Paths (similar to what we currently do with Iterations). This should allow you to achieve what you are describing provided you create an area path for each project and assign them accordingly. Would this help?

    Kind Regards,
